About

A reserved and kind-hearted hyuran man with steel eyes and unbending resolve, Haide Cassius, originally hailed from Gridania. Haide found his youth stolen by his mother when she whisked him away to Ilsabard after his father died when he was seven. There, he spent most of his days being trained by his stepfather for his eventual conscription into the imperial army at eighteen, and was not able to return to Eorzean soil until his escape three summers later. He spent the majority of his days training and adventuring before joining the scions at twenty-six. Now at twenty and nine summers, Haide currently dedicates himself to the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and their cause, cutting down any adversary that would rise in the wake of chaos and was dubbed the "Warrior of Light" and the "Warrior of Darkness" both.

A man of great ambition and determination, Haide is serious about his work and passionate about the goals he aims to achieve. He is tactical and decisive, and puts the lives of those he cares about before his own. Growing up in an environment where he was not sure who to trust led him to become secretive and cautious with others. Although reserved, Haide is kind and selfless and does what he can to help others.

Background

Haide Cassius, born Haide Campion, originally hailed from Gridania to Eorzean parents, Beric Campion and Alryda Sophner. Beric Campion was an adventurer and world traveler in his youth, and soon became an Adder soldier. He took part in Gridanian defense as well as the defense against the Garleans at Baelsar’s Wall. His wife, Alryda Sophner, worked in the markets as a merchant, where she assisted in selling herbs and making medicine. Beric was described as a determined man and a committed soldier. Alryda was known to be a quiet presence amongst the other merchants at the markets, and not much was known of her past. She was also said to have been friendly, but a little secretive and reserved. The two met when Alryda had just moved in in search of work. Beric was an immense help to her and helped her get started in the markets. He fell in love with her and they both wed soon after.

Haide was born shortly after they wed. For a while they were a seemingly happy family and led a peaceful life. Though they weren’t wealthy in the least, they lived comfortably. Haide grew up a very active child and his father discovered that the boy had a knack for combat. After numerous trial runs, Beric discovered that Haide's chief strength laid in swordsmanship and sought to hone his skill with a blade; training him in the ways of the gladiator. During their sparring sessions, Beric would often tell him all about his adventures and Eorzean history; including the Garlean threat and the Eorzean effort to neutralize it. As Haide got older, he wanted to become like his father and help defend Eorzea from the Garleans as well as any other threat.

Unfortunately, soon after Haide turned 7, his father lost his life during a mission. His mother became more estranged and quickly gave up her life in Gridania to marry Alban rem Cassius, an imperial soldier she had fallen in love with. The soldier was of Garlean descent and was a commander of cohorts. They had secretly met at Baelsar’s Wall, and after a short while, Alban proposed to Alryda, promising her a more comfortable life in the Garlean Empire. She accepted and she, alongside with Alban secretly moved back to Ilsabard, taking Haide with them to start their new life despite his protests. Haide felt betrayed by his mother’s actions and was angry at the fact that she so easily sided with what he believed to be the enemy. But his complaints did nothing but fall on deaf ears.

After relocating to Ilsabard, Haide was forced to adopt Alban’s surname and tensions arose in the household between Haide and his stepfather. Though their relationship was rocky, Alban recognized Haide’s natural prowess as a swordsman and felt that he would be a good soldier. He made sure Haide was conscripted into the imperial army as soon as he was of age. At the age of 18, Haide was conscripted into the Imperial army and served as a soldier for the next three years. Shortly after his 21st nameday, he found an opportunity to escape. It took him a few months until he was able to set foot onto Eorzea once more, and by then, the Calamity had happened. He remained in Gridania for a while to help rebuild and eventually decided to join the Adventurer’s Guild. Since then, Haide has traveled around by himself as an adventurer. During this time, he traveled far and wide. He came into contact with the Scions on his twenty-sixth nameday.

TRIVIA

  • He got his scar on his right cheek during his escape to Eorzea.

  • Although his stepdad sent search parties after Haide's escape, the commander's reputation was far too tarnished and he along with his wife were executed not long after.

  • Haide claims that he kept his surname, Cassius, as a testament to his upbringing but there may be a deeper reason. He later readopts his birth surname before the events of Endwalker.

  • He is an avid wanderer and traveler, and spends most of his time camping and sleeping outside.

  • He’s unfamiliar and a bit apprehensive with romantic affairs. Haide doesn’t fall in love easily and has never been in a relationship. He’s not interested in pursuing one due to his adventuring lifestyle along with WoL things.

  • He considers the Scions to be family and is closest to the twins. He is also incredibly fond of Ardbert and the Exarch.

  • He can’t tolerate spicy food at all. Even a little bit will send him into a coughing fit.

  • His favorite foods are warm and hearty meals like stew or soups. He is also a fan of creamy and sweet things like custard but doesn’t eat them often.

  • The only food he knows how to make is jerky. He is horrible at cooking and gave himself food poisoning when he attempted to make himself a meal once.

  • Although he mostly indulges in ale, milk is actually his favorite drink.

  • He often doesn’t notice how dirty he is and will bathe if it’s pointed out, but he never stays clean for very long.

  • He has a surprisingly good singing voice. The only way you would ever know is if you asked him about it, as he rarely ever sings.

  • He can't draw very well.
